Big Island Beaches

Tucked along the stunning Kohala Coast of Hawaiʻi’s Big Island, Mauna Lani Beach Club—also known as Makaiwa Bay—is a beautiful white sand cove known for its calm waters, scenic views, and relaxed atmosphere. Located within Mauna Lani Resort, this protected bay offers a peaceful beach experience that feels both exclusive and welcoming, making it a favorite for families, couples, and anyone looking to enjoy a classic Hawaiʻi beach day.

One of the reasons visitors love Mauna Lani Beach Club is its gentle, year-round swimming conditions. The cove is naturally sheltered from rough ocean surf, creating calm, clear waters that are perfect for children, beginner swimmers, paddleboarding, and snorkeling. The reef just offshore is home to colorful tropical fish and sea life, making it a popular spot to explore beneath the surface. Many guests spend the day floating in the calm bay, relaxing on the soft white sand, or watching the sunset over the Pacific.

Resort guests receive a Beach Club Access Card for convenient parking at the Beach Club lot, while non-resort visitors can use the public shoreline access parking located behind the Mauna Lani Sports & Fitness Club. From there, it’s a scenic 15-minute walk along a coastal trail to the beach. Once you arrive, you’ll find convenient amenities including showers, restrooms, beach chairs, ocean gear rentals, and dining at the popular NaPua Restaurant, where oceanfront lunches and sunset dinners are a must.

Whether you're planning a family beach day, a romantic afternoon by the water, or a relaxing stop during your Big Island adventure, Mauna Lani Beach Club is a place worth visiting. Pack your sunscreen, grab your snorkel gear, and discover why this hidden gem on the Kohala Coast remains one of the island’s most loved beach destinations.
